Furchtlos

for refugees

Many people leave their home country ...

… to live a safer life in another country. In doing so, they leave behind their family and friends, but also things that were important to them. In their home country and on the run, many people experience enormous suffering. In Germany, too, the problems continue and there seems to be no end in sight…  Such experiences are a heavy burden for every human being.

Common reactions to stressful experiences include:

anger, disappointment, constant fear, sadness, sleeping problems, nightmares, hopelessness, …

Some people who feel this way think that they have to go through it alone and that nothing can be done anyway.

But there is help:

In our project, we offer you various types of help. At the beginning there is always a short conversation, a so-called „screening“. It consists of a few questions about your personal situation and health. Everything you share with us remains confidential: neither us nor the interpreters may talk to anybody about what has been said in the conversation. The screening does not have any risks or side effects, it is possible that some topics which were discussed may occupy you intensely for a couple of hours or days. That is not harmful nor dangerous, on the contrary. You are welcome to contact us afterwards.

Sometimes this is followed by psychotherapy. In psychotherapy you can talk to a person who specialized in these problems. This person is called a psychotherapist. She or he supports you dealing with your stress and getting better. Psychotherapy can help with problems of thinking, feeling, experiencing and acting.

If you do not yet speak sufficient German, an interpreter will join you. These interpreters are trained for their work and know how difficult it is, especially for young people who have come to Germany. They often experienced such stressful times themselves.

If you do not trust yourself to go to the therapist, the interpreter can support you even more. He or she is then like a „peer counselor“ who accompanies you to the appointments or calls you in between and reminds you.

Yes, every person, no matter whether they have attended school or not, no matter what they have experienced or done, what culture or religion they belong to, is able to benefit from good psychotherapy. The therapies we offer are effective and specifically tailored to your situation. The practitioners are very empathetic. It is especially important that you yourself want to change something and are willing to get to know yourself anew. Your cooperation and the support of the practitioners will contribute to your health, both mentally and physically, and enable you to have a better future.
